Bohol-Cebu bridge “China” funding eyed

The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) has endorsed the construction of the Bohol-Cebu Multi-Access Friendship Bridge to Chinese investors for funding, said Cong. Erico Aristotle Aumentado.

According to Aumentado, a feasibility study and pre-engineering work could start as early as next year should the proposal be approved.

The legislator from the second district said that the endorsement was made by President Rodrigo Duterte through NEDA Deputy Director General Rolando Tungpalan.

The development was then reported by Tungpalan to Aumentado whose late father, former governor Erico Aumentado, aspired to have the bridge constructed when he was still in office.

The proposed 24-kilometer bridge which will connect the towns of Getafe in Bohol and Cordova in Cebu was first conceptualized during the gubernatorial term of the late Aumentado.

The project was initially dubbed by Aumentado as a “3-in-1” project which would direct water from Inabanga River to Mactan through a water pipe attached to the bridge and bring cheaper power from Cebu to Bohol.

Former governor Aumentado also projected that the bridge would boost trade and commerce bringing in goods and commuters as well as tourists between the two bustling provinces of Central Visayas. (Rey Tutas)
